It is important that you know how to handle and take care of diamonds. They should be cleaned once a month to maintain their sparkling luster and shine. If you buy beautiful diamonds, you need to also make sure they are clean and beautiful.
Greases, skin fats, soaps, and cosmetics tend to stick easily to diamonds while water is being pushed away. A bold and dirty diamond loses its ability to reflect light and looks less than a pure diamond.
Here are some tips on methods we recommend to keep your diamond sparkling.
How to clean your diamonds
Cleaning bath
Prepare a small bowl of warm water with some mild detergent. Gently brush the diamond with a soft toothbrush while it is in the cleaning water. Place the diamond in a sieve and rinse under running hot water. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Coldwater bath
Mix a solution of half cold water and half household ammonia in a cup. Leave the diamond in and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then gently pull it up on the back and front of the bezel with a small brush.
Dip the diamond in the solution a few more times and allow it to dry on a paper. No rinsing is needed.
Quick-Dip method: Buy a liquid jewelry cleaner and follow the instructions.
